We shall never know all the good a simple smile can do. – Mother Theresa
This card makes me think of one of those quiet mornings when you get up early, ahead of the family hubbub, make a wonderful cup of coffee and serve yourself using the “good china.” Such a luxurious but simple treat – one that makes me smile inside and out!
This card keys in on a few of the design elements for boutique styling that raise something simple to something elegant. I focused on a faux Letterpress technique using a die to create deep impressions on a background and also by adding metallic touches to pizazz to an otherwise simple design.
Using Altenew’s Spring Showers die a letterpress element was created with 2 layers of 80lb Neenah paper. A Spellbinders embossing mat was inserted into the sandwich for my die cutting machine. I wanted a fainter impression for the background so I used the second layer after trimming it to size. The ‘top’ piece will be saved for another day. The trimmed background was then accented with a strip of silver metallic paper with a stitched edge and scalloped paper edge to compliment overall design.
The coffee pot and the cup from Altenew’s Coffee Love were stamped then reversed masked so only the interior would be stamped. A floral image from Altenew’s Focus on Me was used to tie into the faux letterpress background. Both images were then colored in with matching alcohol markers from Altenew. The finishing details are the silver paint added to the coffee pot lid and the lip of the coffee cup and a coat of Wink of Stella added to the flowers.
Finally, the silver embossed sentiment was dded to tie all the metallic elements together on this almost 1 layer card. Ah, I can almost smell the coffee!
